Friday 14th December
DEAR PARENTS
Welcome to the final newsletter of 2007 – the year has passed so quickly. It just remains for me to say thank you on behalf of all my staff for your generous gifts – they are all much appreciated. We wish you a very Happy Christmas and a healthy and prosperous New Year. EXAMINATION RESULTS Pupils in years 9, 10 and 11 will receive their examination results at the beginning of next term. There will be a Parents Evening for S11 in January, during which the mock GCSE results will be discussed. The NFER Cat test results for years 4 and 7 will also be issued in January. REPORTS S7 and S8 will be receiving reports today. I do hope you find the new format informative and that the targets set give clear indications of areas in which your child needs to improve. DAYTRIP TO CALAIS Senior pupils enjoyed a day trip to Calais last week. Unfortunately the weather and terrible traffic conditions made their journey difficult, but the pupils were very patient and still made it to Calais in time for lunch and shopping! It was a great opportunity for them to practise their French and so, give their learning more relevance. Thanks to Miss L’Akremi for organising the visit and to Mrs Willis and Mr & Mrs Willmore for accompanying and supervising the students. CHRISTMAS QUIZ All answer sheets for the Christmas Quiz need to be handed in by Friday 11th January. Good luck! INFANT PRODUCTION The Infant department staged a wonderful Christmas production last week. The children performed beautifully and the show was an absolute delight. It was hard to believe that some performers were only four years old! Thanks to Mrs Shayle and Mrs Casey for their help, but most of all to Mrs Howland for organising and hosting a lovely afternoon which will give all the children such happy memories. A DVD of the show is available at £10.00 per copy – please see Mrs Howland if you would like to order one. All proceeds will go to the Infant department funds. CAROL SERVICE We held our annual carol service on Tuesday at the Evangelical Church in Romford. It was, as always, a very special service with every year group in the school being represented. Congratulations to all the performers! A collection was held for the Little Havens Children’s Hospice and a magnificent £138.20 was raised. Thank you to all the parents and friends who attended a most enjoyable afternoon. PARTY AND PANTOMIME! The Primary children enjoyed their Christmas party and a visit to see ‘Cinderella’ at the Cliffs Pavilion, Southend this week - they certainly have a hectic social life! SENIOR DRAMA AND DEBATE GCSE drama students performed two assessment pieces to their fellow pupils this week. One piece was a performance of “Abigail’s Party” and the second was a Theatre in Education presentation about peer pressure. All students gave fantastic performances, reflecting the wealth of talent we have here at Raphael. Well done! NEW PUPILS AND LEAVERS In January we will be welcoming Charlotte Connolly (S9) and Samuel Akwenuke (P1). I do hope they will feel welcome and enjoy their studies here. We sadly bid farewell to Sonny Curran (P2) and Shaheim Kabunga (J6). We wish them every success in the future. NEXT TERM Next term begins on Monday 7th January at 8.40am for all pupils. AND FINALLY………. Well, it certainly has been a very busy first term for me, but thanks to the support of the staff, parents and pupils it has been a most rewarding and exciting time. |
